Jarkko Nieminen reaches into third Tennis Bangkok semi
Jarkko Nieminen has successfully made his way into his third semi-final round of the Thailand Open Men’s competition on Friday, after getting the better of his third seeded opponent Jurgen Melzer in a three-setter clash. The final match score was 6-3, 7-6
(7/4).
The Finn, who is ranked number sixty in the world by ATP, contested in the last four at the Impact arena back in 2003 and 2005, losing on both occasions to the ultimate championship winner.
The victory sends the left-hander into his first championship semi-final since Delray Beach during the month of February back in 2009, where he was ousted by Ernests Gulbis, a fourth seeded player this week in the capital of Thailand.
Jarkko's previous semi-final match came in Sydney last year, when he eventually made his way into the finals, however, was defeated at the hands of David Nalbandian from Argentine in straight sets.
He will next take on Benjamin Becker, who dispatched off his German tennis foe, Daniel Brands in two sets. The final match score was 6-4, 6-2. The clash concluded in a time period of fifty seven minutes.
Jarkko, who is working since the summer with Jan DeWitt of Germany, said that at the age of twenty nine, he has been able to develop much of his game under his fresh mentor.
"I have been doing things one way for thousands and thousands of times, but I'm really starting to see progress now. We have worked on a lot of things - especially the serve. But everything takes time. You do not see the changes the next day. I am very satisfied
as to how things are going with my game,” said elevated Jarkko after his victory on Friday.
Nieminen managed to break on two occasions in the first set and sealed the win with a service winner on his first of two match points versus the French Open semi-finalist.
The loss tainted Jurgen’s quest for one of the eight places in the ATP World Tour's season end Barclays in London, with the Austrian currently ranked number eleven in the points chase.
