Jarlinson Pantano wins 7th stage and Felix Rafael takes overall lead in 2011 Vuelta a Colombia
Colombia Es Pasion team’s Jarlinson Pantano won the seventh stage of 2011 Vuelta a Colombia in Duitama on Sunday, June 19.
Felix Rafael Cardenas took the overall leader’s yellow jersey. The 22-year-old Colombian took a total of 1 hour, 38 minutes and 14 seconds to cover the distance of 96 kilometres.
After winning the stage, Jarlinson told the media, "I am very happy for this win, we wanted to stage it sought and obtained, this is a victory we deserved and finally got things."
Jefrey Romero of Boyaca Orgullo De America Loteria De Boyaca was the runner-up and Luis Fernando Macias of Movistar was in the third spot.
Edson Calderon of Redetrans-Supergiros-Indervalle-Emcali tried his best to catch the 88th cyclist, but he failed to maintain his pace and grabbed the 89th spot with a difference of 20 seconds. 
A group of four cyclists made their first breakaway including, Felix Rafael Cardenas, John Edilberto Martinez (Colombia Es Pasion), John Alejandro Garcia (GW Shimano-Chec-Edeq-Envia) and Marlon Perez (GW Shimano-Chec-Edeq-Envia).
All of them gained a lead of few seconds over the peloton. Felix Rafael attacked, but failed and John Martinez won the first sprint of the stage.
In the last 22 kilometres, Rafael Montiel of Gobernacion De Antioquia-Indeportes Antioquia, increased his pace and managed to win the second sprint, ahead of Jose Daniel.
In the last three kilometres, Rafael Montiel of Gobernacion De Antioquia-Indeportes Antioquia team launched an attack and managed to extract less than 10 seconds to get ahead of the peloton.
However, Jarlinson maintained his pace and crossed the finish-line first and Carlos grabbed the fourth spot in the sprint classification.
Felix Rafael of GW Shimano-Chec-Edeq-Envia took the overall lead with a timing of 27 hours, 35 minutes and 2 seconds. Jafrey Romero of Boyaca Orgullo De America Loteria De Boyaca was the runner-up with 39 seconds behind Felix.
Walter Pedraza of Epm-Une was in the third spot with a difference of 51 seconds, while the stage winner, Jarlinson, grabbed the 12th spot with 2 minutes and 52 seconds adrift.
After a one day rest, the next stage will start in Duitama and end in Socorro. All the riders will cover a distance of 199 kilometres.
