Jarmere Jenkins upsets eighth seed Chris Eaton in 2nd qualifying – Charlottesville Challenger 2011
American wildcard entrant Jarmere Jenkins ousted eighth seeded Briton Chris Eaton in the second qualifying round of Charlottesville Challenger 2011.
The players battled it out on indoor hard courts of the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Virginia. After one hour and twenty two minutes American wildcard Jenkins got rid of the eighth seed in straight sets of 6-2, 7-5
on Sunday the 30th of October 2011.
Jenkins powered through the first set of the match and accomplished a 65 percent of his total service points won. Moreover, he had a flawless precision and did not perpetrate any double faults and instead, smashed two aces. Although
he didn’t save any of his breakpoints, he accomplished to achieve a hundred percent of breakpoints won.
On the other hand, Eaton was unable to settle in the opening set and it was just not his day. He not only had a poor service game but his return was much worse. He only bagged a pathetic 35 percent of his total return points and
had failed to save any breakpoints.
The first round of the match was initiated by Jenkins, who managed to reel off straight three games over his adversary by capitalizing on an early break in the second game and placed himself on the scoreboard with a mini lead of
3-0. It was in the fourth game that Eaton made a return by holding his serve, he then benefited from a break to reduce the deficit to 2-3 by the end of the fifth game.
However, Jenkins was quick to break back and once again was leading with a break and hold of serve by the end of the sixth game. As Jenkins served, he smashed a marvellous backhand winner and clogged the seventh game. He was now
only a game away and as Eaton double faulted; Jenkins secured the opening set with a 6-2 victory.
Second round of the match was commenced once again by Jenkins and this time the players were neck-on-neck into each other as they matched an eye for an eye. Eaton was not going down without a fight and managed to take a notch higher
in his performance. The score tied at 1-1 as the players held their service games.
In subsequent eight games the players kept the score tied by holding their service games and the score levelled for the last time at five games each by the end of the tenth game. During the last two games, Jenkins tactfully held
his serve and pressurized his opponent to double fault. In doing so; he sealed his victory with a 7-5 win.
Next up for the American wildcard entrant is third seeded Briton Alex Bogdanovic in the final qualies of the event.
