Jarmere Jenkins wipes out Alex Bogdanovic in final qualies - Charlottesville Challenger 2011
American wildcard entrant Jarmere Jenkins got the better off third seeded Briton Alex Bogdanovic by surviving a mid match fall in the final qualifying round of the Charlottesville Challenger 2011.
After a two hours and thirteen minutes battle on indoor hard courts of the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Virginia, Jenkins managed to score 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 against Alex on Monday the 31st of October 2011.
Initiating the first round of the match was Jenkins, who had just won his service toss and he got off to a great start as he managed to reel two successive games by holding his serve and capitalizing on a breakpoint to take a mini lead of 2-0 on the scoreboard.
However, in the following two games Alex made a comeback by braking back to completely reduce the lead at 2-2 in the fourth game.
During subsequent four games the players once more held their serves and the score balanced at 4-4 by the end of the eighth game. The players kept the score tied and were quick to match a blow for a blow. Nevertheless, in the last two games, Jenkins capitalized
on a crucial breakpoint and then held his serve to go one up in the match by restricting his opponent to only four games.
Commencing the second set of the match was Alex and this time he got off to a great start as he was the one to benefit from an early break in the second game and reeled off start three games to place himself on the scoreboard with a mini lead of 3-0. It
was in the fourth game that Jenkins made a return but he was still a break and game down in the set.
In the following two games the players once more held their serves and further shifted the scoreboard to 4-2 by the end of the sixth game. During the seventh game Alex smashed a beautiful backhand winner and increased his lead to 5-2. Alex was unable to
close the match in the next game and the serve switched. In the eighth game, Jenkins reduced the deficit to 3-5 but as Alex smashed another backhand winner, he sealed his victory of the set.
Both the players had bagged a set apiece by the end of the first two sets and initiating the third set was Jenkins. This time both the players managed to hold their service games for the first four games to tie the score at 2-2. In the fifth and the sixth
game Jenkins took the lead with a hold of serve and then capitalized on a break point.
Amidst the last three games as the players once more held their serves; Jenkins managed to seal his victory of the set and the match against the third seeded Alex to secure a spot in the main draw of the event.
