Jarmila Gajdosova awarded wildcard for the Brisbane International – Tennis News
Local star, Jarmila Gajdosova, is rewarded with a wild card entry at the Brisbane International, a WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier event taking place in Brisbane, Australia.
Gajdosova will join the line-up where eight of the Top 10 players are leading the field. The Aussie underwent through a disastrous season this year which saw her falling 150 places in the WTA Premier Rankings. Several injuries let her off track as she suffered
opening or early round exits at almost every tournament she played.
“It means a lot. I can't thank enough the Brisbane International and Tennis Australia for giving me this opportunity to start my comeback and new year playing main draw at such a great event,” the Aussie thanked the tournament’s organization and the Tennis
Australia for awarding her wildcard.
The former world number 25, Gajdosova is undergoing through intense off season training in order to bounce back in the upcoming season. She is eyeing to re-ignite her spark and crack back into the Top 25 in 2013.
Gajdosova commented further in a press conference, "I've been working hard this off season - also had some time off, so I am very excited to come back home and play in front of my home crowd. I feel healthy and happy and hope all my hard work on and off
the court will show.”
The Slovakian-born Gajdosova made a comfortable start for her 2012 campaign. She was ranked 34th when she entered the Moorilla Hobart International. The Aussie made a comfortable entry and secured a quarter-final showing after losing to the German
qualifier, Mona Barthel. She overpowered Japan’s Ayumi Morita and her wild card compatriot, Anastasia Rodionova in three sets in her opening two matches.
The Aussie managed to shock Germany’s Julia Goerges in the Fed Cup but crashed out from the opening or early rounds from all tournaments she participated afterwards.
Adding further to her misery, Gajdosova suffered opening round exits at the Australian Open, the Wimbledon Championships and the US Open. As a result, she fell out of the Top 100 form WTA Premier Rankings.
She played her last match at the Guangzhou’s International Women’s Open in September and ended the season standing at number 184 at the WTA Premier Rankings.
