Jarmila Gajdosova edges past Anastasia Rodionova in the second round – Hobart International 2012
Two local superstars, fifth seed Jarmila Gajdosova and Anastasia Rodionova, contested for the place in the quarter-final of Hobart International tournament on Wednesday. An exciting three-set encounter was played at the Hobart
Sporting Arena and it lasted for an hour and 50 minutes before the fifth seed sealed the win with a score of 6-3, 1-6, 6-4.
It was the third encounter between the two Aussie aces and the fifth seed lead the head-to-head tally by 2-0. It was a great opportunity for the inferior ranked Aussie to turn the tables upon her opponent and clinch the special
victory that will enhance her fan base. She went close on achieving her goal but failed to apply the final touch that would have made it one of the most memorable days in her life.
Sloppy start to the match witnessed both players hanging on to their respective serves in the first seven games of the match; scores moved to 4-3 in favour of Gajdosova. She broke in the next game to take the lead and rounded
off the set in quick succession with a serve game. It was such an abrupt ending with the underdog winning the first set in a cheeky manner to leave the competitor in depression.
Rodionova pulled up her socks and flabbergasted everyone with a stunning one-sided show in the second set, which featured two successive breaks in the fourth and sixth game of the set. She spared just one game for her opponent
and sealed the second set win in grand fashion. This was absolutely stunning and brought the crowd on their feet.

Aussie fifth seed regained her composure and initiated the final set with successful serve game, coupled with some mind blowing down the line winners in the next game to earn her the first break in the set. She bagged the
third game as well and took 3-0 lead at the start. The inferior ranked Aussie held her serve in the next game to get off the mark. Fifth seed continued her domination and pocketed the next serve game to take the scores to 4-1 in her favour.
A remarkable comeback was witnessed by the Aussie competitor, as she claimed the next three games, which include a pivotal break in the seventh game. Fifth seed held her serve and broke in the next game to take the last set
and place a berth in the quarter-finals.
