Jarmila Gajdosova ousts Aiko Nakamura in 1st round – HP Japan Open 2011
In a day where almost all the top seeds managed to outshine; Jarmila Gajdosova was no exception. In just fifty two minutes, fifth seeded Austrian Gajdosova got the best of wildcard entrant Aiko Nakamura in straight sets of 6-0,
6-1 on outdoor hard courts of the Utsubo Tennis Center in Osaka, Japan during the main draw of the HP Japan open 2011.
The players had contested twice prior to this event and the last time they met was in 2004 at Lexington, USA. The players had battled it out on outdoor hard courts and emerging victorious was Nakamura in straight sets of 6-1, 6-3.
Meeting for the third time, Nakamura decided to initiate the first round of the match as she had won the service pitch but she got off to a poor start as she double faulted on her second serve of the first game. On the other hand,
Gajdosova had benefitted from the break point and then held her serve to take a mini lead of 2-0. She repeated the feat in the third and the fourth game to further increase her lead and the scoreboard rotated at 4-0.
As she powered through the remaining set, Gajdosova not only won on her serves but also on her opponents and saw a bagel set victory at the end of the sixth game of the opening set. On the contrary, the Japanese wild card entrant
was unable to set her rhythm and was also incapable of bagging a single game against the higher ranked challenger.
After taking a beating in the first set, Nakamura still hadn’t learnt her lesson and opening for the second set of the match was again Nakamura, who repeated history by not winning her first service game and endorsed Gajdosova
with an early break. By the end of the second set it was only Gajdosova on the scoreboard with a 2-0 mini lead.
During the following two games the players managed to bag a game each on alternate serves and the scoreboard progressed to 3-1 with Gajdosova leading.  The Austrian shifted into top gear and capitalized on another break in the
fifth game. As she held serve in the sixth, she was only a game away from victory. In the seventh game, Nakamura came under pressure and double faulted, endorsing the match point to Gajdosova, who moved on ahead secure a place in the second round of the event.
