Jarmila Gajdosova ousts Anabel Medina Garrigues in 1st round
– China Open 2011
World number thirty four, Slovakian Jarmila Gajdosova moved into the second round of China Open 2011 held in Beijing, China. On Saturday, 1st October the players battled on outdoor hard courts until the Slovakian defeated Espanola
world number twenty nine Anabel Medina Garrigues in straight sets of 6-3, 6-0 in seventy three minutes of play.
The first round of the match was opened by Gajdosova, who held her serve in the first game and then went on to break her opponent in the second game and was leading with a mini lead of 2-0. However, Garrigues was not going to let
her adversary ease away and broke back immediately in the next game to reduce the deficit to 1-2. By the end of the fourth game, the Espanola had completely eradicated the deficit and tied the score at 2-2 by holding her serve.
During the following two games the players broke each other back-to-back and the score again progressed on even terms to round off at 3-3. However, in the last three games Gajdosova took out her offensive technique of serve-break-serve
and clogged the set with a deftly 6-3 victory.
Opening the second round of the match was Garrigues and even after taking a thrashing in the first round she did not learn her lesson and instead further plummeted in the game. Garrigues got off to a bad start and lost her first
service game, endorsing a game to Gajdosova.
On the contrary, Gajdosova got off to a great start as she dominated from the beginning and then capitalized on an early break. By the end of the first two games, it was only the Slovak to be found on the scoreboard and that too
with a lead of 2-0.
Amidst the third and the fourth game, Slovak world number thirty four not only held her serve but also benefitted from another break during the fourth game and Gajdosova, although unseeded, still expertly managed to further increase
the gap to 4-0.
The last two games were also in favour of Gajdosova, when Garrigues was about to serve for the fifth game her fore hand swing went wayward and she lost another game. At this point Gajdosova was bagging a near flawless victory with
a 5-0 lead and as she served for the match in the sixth game, she smashed an ace at 40-Ad and in doing so she bagged a flawless bagel victory.
The Slovak will now be facing will either be facing number one seed Caroline Wozniacki or the Czech Lucie Hradecka in the second round of the event.
