Born on April 26, 1987 in the city of Bratislava, Jarmila Groth is a professional tennis player from Australia. The twenty three year old Groth achieved her career high ranking of world number fifty six back on August 23, 2010.
Currently, the Australian is ranked number 55 in the world by the Women Tennis Association (WTA).
As a junior player, the right handed Groth reached the semi final round of two junior major events in her career. At the grass court Grand Slam tournament back in 2003, Groth made her way into the semi final round where she was
defeated by the eventual champ, Kirsten Flipkens in straight sets. At the Australian Open junior tennis championship, Groth reached the semis in both doubles as well as singles contests. On both occasions, she however was taken down by Nicole Vaidisova in
straight sets. Another success for the Australian came at the Italian Open junior championship back in 2003, where she won the title along with her doubles partner, Andrea Hlavackova.
As far as her performance this season is concerned, the professional tennis star from Australia started the season by playing at the Brisbane International tennis tournament where she lost in the second round. At the Australian
Open tennis tournament, Jarmila Groth couldn’t even win her opening round clash as she was ousted by Sofia Arvidsson in a total of three sets in Melbourne. The final match score was 6-2 4-6 6-4.
Jarmila remained in Australia and secured a couple of ranking points after being successful at the $25,000 Sydney ITF. She was also a runner up at the $25,000 Burnie ITF and a quarterfinalist at Mildura and Burnie international
tennis federation events.
The Sydney resident was granted a wild card entry into the clay court French Open tennis tournament 2010 where she faced Chan Yung-jan in the opening round at Roland Garros. The Australian comfortably made her way into the second
round after defeating Chan in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-2 6-3. She next played Kimiko Date Krumm of Japan. Krumm reached the second round of the French Open after brushing aside, Dinara Safina in the previous clash. Jarmila dismissed
Krumm smashing her 6-0 6-3. Groth was next set to face her compatriot fellow, Anastasia Rodionova. This meant that only one of the Australian playerz could advance to the fourth round in Roland Garros. The twenty three year old Groth after playing a three
setter clash managed to beat Anastasia in a total of three sets and thus reached the round 4 at the French Open. The final match score was 6-3 5-7 6-2. This was the Australian’s first ever fourth round run in a Grand Slam tournament. In the fourth round, the
right handed however was knocked down by Yaroslava Shvedova in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-4, 6-3. However, as a result of her good performance at the French Open, Jarmila improved her ranking to number 88 in the world.
The 1.74 meters tall Australian next competed at the grass court Grand Slam tournament where she once again made her way into the fourth round. The American tennis ace, Venus Williams got the better of Groth in the round four to
book a quarter berth at the All England Club. The final match score was 6-4 7-6.
Jarmila reached her new career high ranking of world number 56 back in August this season and registered her name as the second highest ranked player from Australia behind the world number six, Samantha Stosur.
