Jarno Trulli confident about his place at Caterham for 2012 season – Formula 1 news
Jarno Trulli has come out in defence of his place at Caterham after rumours of his replacement have become louder.
Trulli maintained that he remains unaware of any such decision, but maintained that he still considers himself as an asset for Caterham.
Speculations have sprung Vitaly Petrov’s name as a potential to replace Trulli. Caterham has not officially announced anything. The Italian has been working with the team for the pre-season testing and that looked a sign that his position in the team is
not at risk.
Trulli has not had a good run with the team. He has not been able to score a single point since he joined the team in 2010. In the 2011 season, his team-mate Heikki Kovalainen comprehensively beat him, while the Italian had serious issues with the power-steering
of the car. The issue gave way to Karun Chandhok to replace him for the German Grand Prix.
Caterham has made quite a few personnel changes and additions to the team to improve the performance for the upcoming 2012 season. Due to which speculations have grown over Trulli’s replacement as the Italian has remained ineffective so far.
At age 37 if Trulli is replaced it might be the end of the road for the veteran. He explained that people do not take into consideration the amount of pressure and hard work is put into a season to get the results, but maintained that he is hopeful for improvement
in the upcoming season.
“I have a contract with Caterham and that is that,” Trulli said. “I don't know anything about any rumours and the team has not said anything. On Monday I am in the factory for my seat fitting, everything is normal. People keep saying things about NASCAR
or Le Mans, but F1 is all I am talking about.”
“People just don't realise how tough it is to begin from zero. I used to race for Minardi but this is much harder; you just can't make mistakes because they have consequences. But I am confident that we can continue to make improvements over the course of
the year,” he added.
