Jarno Trulli confident new Lotus car T128 strong enough to challenge the midfield – Formula 1 news
The new Lotus car, T128 was tested by the team for the fourth time at the first day of pre-season testing in Jerez including the 3 days of testing in Valencia.
After testing in Jerez, Jarno Trulli stated that he is now more confident after the team pulled some more pace out of the new Lotus and that the new car has the capability of enabling its drivers to challenge the mid-running teams in the 2011 Formula 1 season.
After failing to secure a single point throughout its debut season, Team Lotus is now hoping to score some points and progress in terms of pace and reliability.
Since the team came up with a new car for the 2011 season with a lot of improvements, Jarno Trulli believes that the upcoming season is going to be much better in terms of statistics for the team as compared to the 2010 Formula 1 season.
“Despite that we are still where we want to be - close to the midfield and in a car that we still have a lot more to add to. I think there is still a lot more to come from the car so I'm very positive and looking forward to getting back to work tomorrow,”
he said.
Trulli thinks that the T128 has a lot of raw pace and the car does feel pretty good.
Other than that, the team’s sporting director Dieter Gass stated that the team was facing some mechanical problem during the beginning of the session but they will try to fix it by the start of the second day of testing in Jerez.
“We started the day well and had a good morning session. For the first time we were able to do meaningful setup work and start being able to understand the aerodynamics of the car,” said Dieter.
It seems that the only problem Lotus are going through right now is consistency as they have not been able to perform consistently during these pre-season test sessions. However, that is not a big problem since most of the teams are usually trying to attain
some data for setting up their respective cars to squeeze out the best performance.
Team Lotus, Hispania Racing Team and Virgin Racing Team became a part of Formula 1 in 2010 but neither of them was unable to secure a single point throughout the season.
The team has two of the most well known Formula 1 drivers Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen and it seems that they are in a much better position than their rivals HRT and Virgin Racing Team for the 2011 Formula 1 season.
