Jarno Trulli hopes FIA penalises Sergio Perez for 2011 Hungarian Grand Prix accident – Formula 1
Lotus Renault driver Jarno Trulli has said that he believes the International Automobile Federation (FIA) will penalise Sauber rookie Sergio Perez for an incident with him in the Hungarian Grand Prix held on July 31, 2011 at the Hungaroring racetrack.
Trulli retired from the Budapest race after 17 laps, as he was pushed back to the midfield when Perez jumped the chicane of the racetrack in order to regain his position and stayed ahead of him after that. He had to retire from the Hungarian Grand Prix due
to that.
The Italian driver discussed his incident with the media and mentioned that the Sauber rookie was quite slow as compared to his Lotus car at the Hungaroring race circuit. He stated he overtook the Mexican twice in the early stages of the race. However, he
said when Perez tried to regain his position, he jumped at the chicane and pushed him back as a result.
After this incident, the team driver was expecting from Formula 1 ruling body to give a penalty to the Sauber driver, as Trulli claimed that it was Perez’s mistake.
Talking to reporters, the 37-year-old driver said, “He showed a rare kind of rudeness and a unique ignorance of the rules, but I wonder why the FIA did not take any measure. What is it there for? What was it looking at? I understand why a boy would shrug,
but the stewards had to intervene.”
He added, “I could overtake him only in the slow sector but didn't manage to anymore, he slowed me down and ruined my race before my engine threw a tantrum like at Silverstone and forced me to retire. My message is clear: there is only one rulebook and it's
the same for everyone.”
Lotus driver went on to say that his message is clear for the FIA that they should have given Perez a penalty, because there is only one rulebook and that is the same for every driver.
Let’s see what decision will be taken by the FIA over the Perez incident in the Hungarian Grand Prix.
