Jarno Trulli of Team Lotus concerned about reliability of new car – Formula 1 news
Team Lotus’ Jarno Trulli recently revealed that he is concerned about the reliability of their new car after completing his part of the pre-season test sessions in Barcelona.
According to Trulli, the Lotus T128 is currently facing a major gearbox problem because of which he was unable score as many laps as he wanted to. Since this was his last test session before the 2011 Formula 1 season begins, the Italian might have to go
through a few problems at the season opening race in Australia that is scheduled to take place on 27 March.
“At the moment we have many things that are not right and that give rise for concern. We have a lot of problems for the first race and in this respect the cancellation of Bahrain is for us very welcome,” Trulli said.
Lotus drivers Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen are not fully satisfied with their cars and the team will have to work overtime on the final day of the final pre-season test session that is taking place in Barcelona in order to address their issues.
After Trulli’s run in the morning of the third day of testing for Lotus, Kovalainen continued their run in the afternoon and completed 40 useful laps for the team.
Team Lotus became a part of the Formula 1 once again in 2010 along with two other new teams namely Hispania Racing Team and Virgin Racing Team. Unfortunately, none of the three new teams was able to secure a single point in the entire season. According to
statistics, Lotus were able to score more race finishes due to which they were considered as the best team out of the three new teams.
In 2011 however, the team is hoping to close the gap between them and the mid-running teams of the sport but in order to do that, they would have to improve their car drastically.
“We have many new parts for this year and also many things we can do to improve during the season, so let's wait quietly. I'm sure there is still a lot to come before the first race. I am confident about taking part in the middle of the field this year,”
said Trulli.
It is going to be interesting to see how the three new teams perform during the new season as compared to each other since both Virgin Racing Team and HRT have also made some major upgrades to their respective cars.
