Jarno Trulli suggests he might stay on with Formula 1 Lotus Racing
Italian Formula 1 racing driver Jarno Trulli suggested this week he might stay on as a driver for the Norfolk-based Lotus Racing next year in the wake of an unsatisfying season.
Lotus Racing has not yet announced their list of drivers for next season, but Trulli has told reporters he is already working on the Lotus car for 2011.
"I'll go to the factory in a few days to get ready and prepare the 2011 season chassis, cockpit and seat," he told BBC Radio Norfolk.
Having finished 10th in the constructors championship, the Lotus Racing team has been recognized as the most competitive of Formula 1’s newly added teams for 2010. However, Trulli had a difficult time because of technical problems and finished 21st in the
driver’s standings, one spot below team-mate Heikki Kovalainen who took 20th place.
This hasn’t been the easiest season in Trulli’s career, and the driver’s best score was when he crossed the line at 13th in Japan after qualifying at 19th.
According to Trulli, his 19th place finish in Brazil was his most memorable moment of 2011.
"It's really hard to find a highlight for me, but Brazil was a great weekend, nearly a smooth weekend for me," said the 36-year-old.
Trulli said that by the end of the season he was feeling more positive and had a better outlook on 2011 as a whole even though it was a difficult run for him. "At the end of the season I found something in the set-up and car characteristic which gave me
a good step in terms of performance," he said.
Trulli had his only Grand Prix success in 2004 at Monaco for Renault and has been at the Formula 1 tracks for 14 years.
The driver, who is used to playing for well established teams such as Renault, is having to get used to the idea of racing for lower positions with the new kid on the block Tony Fernandez and Lotus Racing. "You've got to have the motivation in order to push
harder, no matter where you are at the end of a lap."
That being said Trulli is not the type to give up easily, he said that even if it is difficult for him to drive with a new team that may not have all its logistics in order, the way more high profile teams do, he has a positive outlook when looking back
on his long career. “I have always tried to get the best out of myself and the car, I've still enjoyed a lot of good fights.”
