Jaromir Jagr's future with Philadelphia Flyers not certain, testing free agency could be an option
Philadelphia Flyers’ general manager, Paul Holmgren, came out on Monday, June 18, 2012, and briefed the media on how signing Jaromir Jagr was still not confirmed, meaning that the veteran player could be in to test the free agency yet again.
Jagr, a 40-year-old hockey legend, made a comeback into the National Hockey League (NHL) after nearly four seasons of playing in the Russian Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) with the Avangard OMSK Region.
"I haven't spoken to Jaromir or his agent [Petr Svoboda since] within two days after the season was over," Holmgren said. "We left it at we would talk later on near the end of June. Again, we don't know what the salary cap is going to be, so there are a
lot of variables that we have to wait on.”
For Philadelphia, having Jaromir Jagr on the line-up was definitely a boost in every aspect but seeing how the player could be demanding a significant raise in salary, Flyers are waiting to see how things play out.
"What he brought to our locker room and what he brought to the practice rink and our strength and conditioning room was outstanding," Holmgren added. "Having him around for the young guys was a great thing."
With the free agency coming up and a number of free agents to re-sign, Holmgren is willing to wait on signing Jagr before making any final decisions.
The last NHL regular season was a decisive one for Jaromir Jagr as he wanted to test his capabilities in the North American major league once again after his last season with New York Rangers back in 2007-2008.
After being knocked out by 2012 Stanley Cup finalists, New Jersey Devils, in the Eastern Conference semi-finals, Jagr came to a conclusion that he still wanted to participate in the league and Philadelphia Flyers would be his first and foremost choice.
According to TSN’s Darren Dreger, the veteran will be testing the free agency when his contract expires on July 1st, which could make the situation a whole lot interesting. Teams would definitely make high offers to Jagr, but there is no clear
indication from his side on where his future might be.
