Jaromir Jagr does not wait long, signs with Dallas Stars one-year, $4.55 million -NHL offseason Update
The longer you test the free agency, the lower your value becomes and Jaromir Jagr knows that very well, which is why the All-Star veteran forward decided to capitalise on the Dallas Stars offer of a one-year contract worth a cool $4.55 million for the next
2012-2013 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season.
Dallas Stars’ general manager, Joe Nieuwendyk, never let the world know that he was going after Jagr and turned out to be the mystery team head that was looking to stay under the radar, but make some significant deals. Having Jaromir Jagr on the squad is
definitely a good sign, at least for next season.
Not having made the playoffs since 2008, Nieuwendyk has been busy this offseason and it seems like signing Jagr was the last of his moves after acquiring Phoenix Coyotes’ Ray Whitney and Buffalo Sabres’ Derek Roy.
"I think I'm going to the lake next week and turn my phone off. I'm pretty much done," GM Nieuwendyk said.
"The moves we've been able to make the last few days are an indication that we are back as a real, relevant franchise, and we're very pleased at what has transpired," Nieuwendyk added.
Talking about how he felt about Jagr and at the age of 40, what he expected him to do for the team, the GM was confident that the Czech All-Star still had it in him to be a championship winning player.
"Even at 40, he's still a difficult guy to contain. He's still as good as anyone in the League at using that big body down low. He keeps himself in tremendous shape. He knows how much he needs to play in order to be successful and how much is too much. I
think he's going to be a really good fit with our group," Nieuwendyk stated about Jagr.
Jagr, at the age of 40, definitely had a top notch season last time around as he potted 54 points (19 goals, 35 assists) in 73 games played for a plus-minus rating of 5 and 30 minutes in the penalty box.
Seeing Jaromir Jagr play for the Stars next season should definitely be exciting and good for the Texas based NHL franchise.
