Jarrod Fletcher ready to defend his Australian middleweight title against Les Piper – Boxing News
Jarrod Fletcher, the current Australian middleweight champion, will enter in his first ever title defence bout against more experienced fellow countryman Les Piper, the current IBF Pan Pacific super middleweight champion, in a 12-round bout which will be
held on April 20, 2012.
The ring for the bout will be stretched at Grand Star Receptions situated in Altona North, Victoria, Australia and the event is being promoted by Adam Wilcock of Fightcard Promotions.
The above duo will co-headline the Friday night show and the WIBA super featherweight championship bout between Diana Prazak and Fatuma Zarika will headline the event.
Jarrod, 28, clearly has the odds in his favourite despite being seriously outclassed by Les’ experience. Fletcher has been in a total 11 bouts and boasts an undefeated win streak.
In addition, the young lad has collected seven of his wins by knockout and possesses a decent powerful jab in fact he is famous by the name ‘Left Jab’ only because of his lethal fists.
Jarrod caught media’s attention in his last bout against Johannes Mwetupunga, the fight in which he collected not only a unanimous decision but dethroned Johannes to become the Aussie middleweight champion.
His Friday night opponent, Piper has been in a total 26 bouts and emerged victorious in just 14. Furthermore, the 28-year-old has nailed only three opponents by knockout and therefore possesses a very nominal ability to collect a sharp and swift early win.
The champion Jarrod overshadows Les by his impressive win streak, the knockout ability, height advantage and therefore the wider reach. Piper, widely known as ‘The Diamond’, is coming from a split decision win over Zac Award and was successful in not only
breaking his three-bout lose streak but also grabbed the IBF Pan Pacific super middleweight gold.
Les has just one advantageous facet in his gear, experience. If Piper capitalises his experience in the most optimal way and throws in the bout everything he has, it might be possible he comes out of the ring victorious since he recently nailed a pugilist
of more experience than Jarrod.
During a recent short media interaction, Jarrod while praising Les, commented, “Piper is a brawler and as tough as nails. I have to box smart from the very start. I'll keep moving and pick him off as I go.”
The bout will be a classic one and if Jarrod nails Les he will definitely move up in the divisional rankings and will solidify his image in the eyes of the critics and his fans.
