Jarrod Killey occupies Men’s 200m freestyle gold – EnergyAustralia SC Championships
Jarrod Killey of Hunter, NSW occupied gold medal of the Men’s 200m freestyle on first day of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Short Course Championships at Challenge Stadium in Perth on Wednesday, September 12.
The 21-year-old Killey served notice of his talent in the eight-lap freestyle discipline as he overpowered his opponents in a ruthless manner and secured his top position on the podium.
With his gruelling efforts, Killey remained one stroke ahead of his closest competitor and tapped the wall for gold medal with a timing of 1 minute and 43.20 seconds.
His gold winning effort remained 0.29 seconds faster from Bobby Hurley of SOPAC, NSW, who made his way to the medal rostrum for silver medal by touching the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 43.49 seconds.
Hurley was chased by Tommaso D’Orsogna of West Coast, WA, who remained 0.38 seconds behind and secured bronze medal of the race by posting a time of 1 minute and 43.87 seconds.
The third position holder was followed by Kyle Richardson of Chandler, QLD, who stayed more than a body length behind and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 44.45 seconds for fourth position.
Fifth fastest spot of the event was followed by Cameron McEvoy of Southport Olympic Swimming Club, who stayed just 0.34 seconds slower from him and transpired on the finishing blockade by submitting a time of 1 minute and 44.79 seconds.
Subsequently, fifth position holder was followed by Travis Mahoney of Nunawading, who suffered a loss of half body length from his preceding swimmer and touched the wall for sixth position with an effort of 1 minute and 45.31 seconds.
Seventh position of the race was followed by Alexander Graham of St Kevins, VIC, who stayed one body length behind and touched the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 46.13 seconds.
Graham was chased by Shane Asbury of Nunawading, who completed his swim in eighth best place by reporting a time of 1 minute and 46.21 seconds.
Killey was overjoyed with his gold finish in first playoff of the night and raked medal after the session.
