Jarrod Lyle hoping an optimistic end at Riviera
With the intent of including himself among the toppers of the list, Jarrod Lyle was able to score the best of his day at the Northern Trust Open at Riviera Country Club.
Before the end of the day’s play, because of bad light, Lyle was able to secure his position in the championship by scoring an impressive bogey-free six-under-par 65.
The timely teeing of the shot helped him make his place on No. 3, just two places behind the leading scorer of the event, Phil Mickelson.
Lyle began his day with the usual birdie on par five level. However, he launched his major attack after carding three consecutive birdies in his final session of nine holes.
Mickelson, on the other hand, was able to consistently perform well at Pacific Palisades.
He was able to reserve a place at the top position in the event after scoring one-under-par 70 in the morning session to acquire a lead against his potential opponent Pat Perez.
Perez, who at that time was at 65, was able to bounce back in form to gain a convincing lead. It is, however, important to mention here that Mickelson was not as crisp in his game, which he unveiled a couple of days ago.
Furthermore, his performance had deteriorated owing to the couple of bogeys he scored in the conclusive session of the game.
However, he was still able to maintain the leading position by scoring an eagle at the penultimate hole.
Once replenishing his confidence level, he was then able to birdie par five on the back nine that allowed him with the opportunity of surging 50 points from his starting position in the first round of the event.
"I probably didn't play the greatest today, but I was able to kind of salvage a good round," Mickelson said.
He stated, "I put myself in contention heading into the weekend, which is what my initial goal was, and so with 36 holes to go I'm right in the thick of it".
"I've got to go out and shoot some low scores because they're out there but I gave myself a good opportunity," he concluded.
According to experts, Mickelson will have to bring more variety in his shots to prove his worth to the world once again.
