Jarrod Parker yields benefits of Cactus League game
The Arizona Diamondbacks are working hard in their camp as Spring Training is pulling them into various games in the Cactus League. The club is engaging in some good matches over the next few days and in a recent outing against the San Diego Padres, they
displayed good form with Jarrod Parker pitching in with two innings.
The preparation for the 2011 Major League Baseball season is going well by all accounts and there is a good batch of rising stars coming back into the squad after a long leave of absence from duty.
Jarrod, who was a former First Round Draft pick, made his second appearance for the club. His stint with the club has been limited by his Tommy John surgery, which had put him out of commission for a long while.
Parker told the press after the game against the Padres, that he was preparing for the season and each outing in the pre-season schedule would better prepare him. He highlighted that his command over his pitching had been groomed and that he was ready.
"Definitely a lot more comfortable", Parker said. "I relaxed a little bit. I threw a little less in the pen".
Parker went on to say that he wanted two innings of his assignment to go through without incident. His other motive for the encounter was to maintain a good healthy energy level during the match.
Parker didn’t allow a single run as he got himself stuck up in a bases loaded situation. Nevertheless, he managed to whip himself out of the predicament.
"I didn't throw any changeups today", Parker said. "I threw a couple of curveballs, a couple of sliders and just kind of worked in and out with the fastball. Just staying with the same delivery, and trying to repeat it each time with every pitch throughout
lefties and righties. I was getting over my front side and getting ahead of guys, and then going in and out as much as I could and just letting guys get themselves out versus trying to strike everybody out".
