Jarrod Saltalamacchia homers twice as Boston Red Sox hammered Cleveland Indians 12-1 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox hammered Cleveland Indians 12-1 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Sunday, May 13 in the finale of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season. The Red Sox have turned things around remarkably over the
last few days.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia displayed some high quality hitting skills as he homered twice to help the Red Sox establish complete control over the contest. David Ortiz, Adrian Gonzalez and Dustin Pedroia also made useful contributions for Boston.
"You start putting runs on the board and winning, everyone's going to get excited," said Saltalamacchia. "But we feed off that. We feed off each other. We feed off the crowd and that's something we were able to do today. We're plenty capable of doing that.
We're a good hitting team. We're a good pitching team. It just hasn't come out yet. These past three games we've really kind of beared down and attacked them."
"I knew if I could get through that and limit the damage there, then I'd get back on track. And that's just what I did," Daniel Bard said.
The Red Sox were 18-12 when they entered the series with the Indians. Bobby Valentine and company were thrashed in the opening game 3-8 and very few would have thought that they will bounce back to win the series 3-1.
Not showing any signs of nerves, Boston secured a thrilling 7-5 win in the second game to level series at 1-1. They continued their impressive form in third game as well to take a decisive 2-1 lead. The 2004 World Series champions stuck to their task on
Sunday evening as they secured their third straight win to improve their confidence levels.
With their win over Cleveland, the Red Sox are now 15-18 and it will be interesting to see if they can continue their fairy run throughout the season to make it to the playoffs. Indians, on the other hand, will be disheartened by the fact they were unable
to take advantage of their 1-0 lead in the series. Manny Acta and his men will be looking to make a strong come back in their next series against Minnesota Twins.
