Jasmine Lai Pui Yee and Kam Ling Kar selected in Malaysian team for 2011 SEA Games – Swimming News

The Amateur Swimming Union of Malaysia (ASUM) has selected the duo of 16-year-old divers, Jasmine Lai Pui Yee and Kam Ling Kar to represent Malaysia at the upcoming 2011 South East Asian (SEA) Games.
The pair will compete at the 26th SEA Games, taking place in Jakarta and Palembang, this November. These youngsters will take part alongside Malaysian expert, Leong Mun Yee, who is the silver medallist of the Women’s 10m synchronised platform
at the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
The duo will be making a debut in their international career, as this will be their first participation at the SEA Games. In addition, the Amateur Swimming Union of Malaysia (ASUM) has sent their final list to Malaysian Olympic Council. Apart from diving,
Malaysian athletes will be participating warmly in swimming, water polo and synchronised swimming.
Nevertheless, the focus will remain on diving, as the Malaysian diving team includes seven Women and four Men. The diving team is predicted to win six gold medals easily in the diving discipline.
The rest of the female diving squad includes Wendy Ng Yan Yee, Traisy Vivien, Cheong Jun Hoong and Mun Yee’s partner, Pandelela Rinong.
The selected teenagers were involved in diving competitions for almost four years and they were surprisingly happy with their selection in the Malaysian squad. Pui Yee and Ling Kar are expected to compete in the Women’s 10m synchronised discipline, and Mun
Yee - Rinong will be aiming the individual diving events.
While expressing her happiness over their selection, Pui Yee said, “I never expected to be given a place in the squad. I’m certainly excited and looking forward to it. It is a big responsibility and we hope we can fulfil the expectations given to us.”
They were included in the Malaysian team after their notable efforts at the Asian Cup, where the duo captured silver medal of the Women’s 3m springboard synchronised discipline. Furthermore, the duo was very excited with their selection and expressed their
desire of making their way to the 2012 London Olympics.
