Jason Allred leads the Web.com Tour’s Miccosukee Championship
Jason Allred of the United States showcased a superb putting display to charge into an early lead in Thursday's opening round at the Miccosukee Championship.
On a firm and fast-running layout at the cloudy Miccosukee Golf & Country Club, in Miami, Allred fired an impressive seven-under par 64, to hold off Christopher DeForest, one stroke behind him.
Michael Connell, Morgan Hoffmann and Phillip Choi shot a 66 each to tie for the third position. Further a stroke back was a pack of five players sharing the sixth position.
The American was impressive with his ball striking and his short game was even better. According to him, the course layout was favouring his playing style.
Right from the beginning of the first round, he attacked the pins and created a number of birdie chances.
At the end of the day, he managed to sign his scorecard with a total of seven birdies, without conceding a single bogey throughout the day.
The highlight of his performance includes a run of five birdies on the first seven holes that he played on the front nine of the course.
The round of 64 also matched his career’s best score. Earlier in his career, he recorded a pair of 64’s in the 2006 Rheem Classic and the 2006 Mark Christopher Charity Classic.
Prior to coming to Florida, his best one-round performance during the 2012 season was two rounds of 65 that came at the Mylan Classic and the Utah Championship.
"It was nice to get off to a good start like I did with birdies on Nos. 2 and 3. It was beautiful to start early in the morning like we did and to see the sun rise and do what you love to do," Allred said.
"The last couple of weeks have been a little frustrating and discouraging because I feel my game has been close," he added.
"I just haven't had good results but today was really enjoyable to see it all come together. My caddie and I said ...earlier in the week that we just have to recommit to the process and be great at what we can control”.
