Jason Bartlett’s good performance helps San Diego Padres rout Milwaukee Brewers, 13-6: MLB Update
San Diego Padres’ short-stop, Jason Bartlett, was outstanding with his bat as he went 4-for-6 with double RBIs in the Padres’ 13-6 win against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park in Milwaukee on May 11.
Bartlett expressed his excitement as, “He could tell, all of us with our heads down, frustrated. We didn't capitalize. He told us, keep our heads up guys, you know, we've got a good pitching staff, good bullpen, we'll score.”
The Padres’ out-fielder, Chris Denorfia, hit a solo homer in the first inning and drove a shot for an RBI single. Adrian Gonzalez also singled to take the initial 3-0 lead. The second inning remained score-less for the both sides. The Padres took a 5-0 lead
at the end of third inning when Brad Hawpe doubled off the left-centre field.
The Brewers started their runs in the fourth inning when Ryan Braun posted a run-scoring double including an RBI hit to move the scoreboard 5-2. Prince Fielder struck a one-run homer in the fifth inning. It was considered as his eighth homer during the current
season. Fielder hit two RBIs double also to add three runs in the fifth inning and tied the game at 5-5.
The Brewers’ batters seemed to be on top, as Yuniesky Betancourt was also impressive with the bat and hit a solo shot which resulted in one-run homer. With this superb contribution of batters, the Brewers went ahead with 6-5 after the sixth inning. But the
Brewers fell behind in the eighth inning, when the Padres scored eight runs. Chase Headley and Cameron Maybin were the two aces to extend their club’s lead.
Maybin drove a two-run shot off the left-field area while Headley completed his two runs by reaching at the third base. Maybin said, “It was fun. The effort's been there, the passion to compete has been there. Things really haven't gone our way, so it's
nice to have something like that happen. It was huge, it was good for our team, good for fans and it was nice, it was a good feeling."
Ryan Ludwick and Rob Johnson also contributed two runs collectively. Ludwick hit his fifth homer of the current season during the eighth inning. Speaking to reporters, Ludwick said, “It's not so much about my 0-for-21 today, it's about the entire offense
putting up as many hits as we did and battling back, getting a win and not getting swept.” The Padres’ led off with 13-6 at the end of eighth inning. No score was added in the ninth inning.
The Padres’ starter, Tim Stauffer, was too expensive as he allowed six runs on nine hits including six earned runs and seven strike-outs in 5 1/2 inning pitches, but the relievers threw really well to restrict the Brewers to a low score.
