Jason Bay misses game against Washington Nationals due to stomach problem - MLB News
Vomiting before the game against the Washington Nationals forces the New York Mets’ Manager Terry Collins to cast Jason Bay off from the line-up. Bay was set to return after staying out of the season for a long time due to bruised ribs.
The Mets fancy great contribution from him as a hitter. With batters like Andres Torres and Ike Davis not living up to their potential, he can step in to make up for the deficit.
Unable to draw the kind of performance that the Mets needed from their offence, they lost first two games against the Nationals in the series. To avoid the sweep, inclusion of Bay was considered a healthy addition. With this, the Mets hoped to see their
offence powering them to win their last game.
Last moment exclusion from the line-up of Bay came as a great setback to the Mets’ chances. Luckily, the Mets did manage to defeat the Nationals and eschew sweep on Thursday.
Still, the significance that Bay holds to the club cannot be denied. The games he played in 2012 regular season before injury saw him hitting a .240 batting average, with a .316 on-base-percentage. Keeping this in view, one can understand the extent to which
the Mets need him.
Furthermore, if his pre-injury record is anything to go by, role he will have played for the side in intervening games can be imagined. An ability to launch mammoth home runs and repeat them consistently makes him a pivotal player for the team.
Currently, the Mets are concerned over some of their hitters. It is not that they have failed to supply hits, only they have been irregular. Lack of depth in the line-up affects overall performance, in turn.
Therefore, addition of Bay will diversify dimensions for making runs and hence, the offence which is prone to volatility, will embrace a stabilising effect.
Issue with his stomach that Bay suffers at the moment is not likely to last. Therefore, chances for his entry in the upcoming games are bright.
Bay will look to unleash his best on return and meet expectations of the manager. How far he can go in his quest will be interesting to watch in the games to come.
