Jason Bay plays second rehab game after suffering concussion and will return soon - MLB Update
The New York Mets’ left-fielder Jason Bay plays in a rehab game for Class-A St. Lucie. After being put on the disabled list by the club due to concussion earlier in the season, it was his second appearance in the field during a competitive match.
While a rehab assignment becomes a launching pad for a players' comeback in the season, he was unable to make the most of it. He was hitless in the at-bats he faced.
Meanwhile, the date of his return in the season has not been reported yet. By making sure that he starts swinging right on plate in the rehab games, Bay can be back soon in the season.
Due to his incredible slugging credentials, the Mets’ management yearns to see him playing as soon as possible.
Furthermore, his ability to handle left handed pitchers is something that can help the Mets in many ways.
As the second half of the season starts, the Mets will be looking to fix loopholes in the offence. For this, frailties regarding playing some pitchers good and others struggling cannot be allowed to sustain. Therefore, addition of Bay in the line-up can
go a long way in this regard.
Furthermore, Mets’ manager Terry Collins considers Bay an important part of the line-up. Having him back at the earliest in the season will be a great positive for their quest for earning a potential play-offs spot this year.
“Jason Bay’s going to be a big piece, if we can get him back in the lineup and he starts to do damage,” Collins said. “Especially against left-handers, which his career has shown. That’s the bat we’ve been looking to find. That right-handed bat.”
Regarding the way Bay attains his form and when one can say that he is set for playing in the season, Collins commented.
“When he feels like he’s swinging as well as he can swing,” Collins said. “He’s coming back.”
With few more rehab appearances, the management will have clearer indications about how comfortable Bay can feel on the plate.
Therefore, one can wait until the completion of a few more rehab assignments by him before confirming the timeline for his comeback in the season.
