Jason Bohn leads suspended round one at the True South Classic
Jason Bohn scored eight birdies on Thursday, en route to a bogey-free round of eight-under par 64 for a one-stroke lead after day one of the True South Classic, before the round suspended due to the inclement weather.
Bohn, a two-time PGA Tour winner, birdied three holes on the front nine. A strong run of five birdies on the back nine of the Annandale Golf Club allowed him to outshine the seven-under par 65 score of the second place holder, Luke Guthrie.
Overall, it was a great start by the 39-year-old American who came to Madison after three missed cuts in a row.
“I've been struggling, no lies about it,” he said. “The conditions were very soft out there. We had a lot of rain out there last night. So we played the ball in hand, makes a big difference. And the greens were very receptive, and they're perfect”.
According to him, the greens were perfect and in accordance to his style of playing. He stated that they were one of the best greens he has ever played in his career.
“I made a bunch of putts. I think I made eight birdies, and I didn't make a bogey,” said Bohn, whose last PGA victory came at the 2010 Zurich Classic of New Orleans. “The conditions are soft. There's no wind. Greens are very receptive. The greens are perfect.
They're some of the best greens we've had on the PGA TOUR”.
During the current PGA Tour season, Bohn played a total of 19 events so far and made the cut only eight times.
His only top-10 finish came in the HP Byron Nelson Championship, when he tied for the ninth position. Otherwise, he never listed himself better than being tied for the 30th position, which he did at the Humana Challenge in partnership with the Clinton Foundation.
Therefore, he now has a chance of making a U-turn with a consistent display of game in the remaining rounds.
Meanwhile, Chris Kirk, the defending champion, carded a four-under through seven holes, prior to the suspension of the play and tied for the 14th position.
