Jason Cundy writes off Chelsea’s Premier League title hopes
Former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy believes that the Blues are now out of the Premier League title race. Cundy urged the squad to forget about retaining their domestic crown and focus on finishing in the top four.
Chelsea’s hopes of retaining the title were dealt a severe blow after their dismal performances throughout the month of December, ultimately causing the Blues to lose their grip on the summit of the Premier League table. Carlo Ancelotti’s
men mounted a slight comeback in recent weeks, putting together a four-game winning streak. However, they are well and truly out of the race now, after earning only a point from their last two games.
A 1-0 loss to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 at Stamford Bridge followed by a goalless draw at Fulham has left the Blues floundering in fifth place. Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has already admitted that his side has no chance of retaining the crown this
season, and former Blues defender Jason Cundy believes that the Italian is right.
Cundy urged the Chelsea supporters to come to terms with the fact that the Premier League title is not coming to Stamford Bridge this season.
He claimed that it is now a two horse between Arsenal and Manchester United, saying, "Chelsea fans need to forget the title, it's over, let's get that one thing straight. I'm reading a lot of rubbish in the press today, ‘they're x amount of points behind
Man United'. Forget Manchester United, we're not going to catch Manchester United, we're not going to catch Arsenal, those two are going to fight it out for the title.”
Cundy went on to add that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 needed to concentrate on retaining their spot in the Champions League next season. He added, “Spurs (Tottenham Hotspur) and Manchester City are the two teams we really need to keep ahead of, as soon as you get that into
your head and stop worrying about the title I think Chelsea will move forward.”
Chelsea are currently in fifth place in the Premier League table. They will have a chance to break into the top four when they face Everton at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, 19 February.
