Jason Day aims to make it to the BMW Championship through a strong finish at the Deutsche Bank Championship
Jason Day, who currently ranks 88th in the official FedEx Cup points list, needs to finish strongly at the Deutsche Bank Championship, in order to make it to the third stage of the US PGA Tour Playoffs – the BMW Championship.
This year, he has only played 14 PGA Tour events so far because of injury issues and the birth of his first child, Dash. Among all his appearances, he succeeded in recording top-10 finishes in only three of them.
Last week, he was ranked 113th in the FedEx Cup points list and needed to make it to the top-100, to make it to the next stage of the Playoffs.
The heroics in the last round for a 66 allowed him to take the share of the 24th spot on the leaderboard, which also confirmed his berth in the Deutsche Bank Championship.
This week, Day once again has a task in hand of improving his rankings in the FedEx Cup standings.
However, he has a strong track record at the venue course, as he finished tied for the third position last year, following a shared second place in 2010.
The 24-year-old Australian, who has not finished better than being tied for the eighth position at the AT&T National this year, is hopeful to outshine his opponents at TPC Boston – one of his favourite golf courses around the world.
“I feel comfortable around here,” Day said. “Like I said, it’s one of my favorite tournaments of the year. The people are great here, they always have been”.
The only thing that bothers him is the change of 18th green from 6,500 to 4,100 square feet. In addition to that, the surface is also raised to two feet.
“There’s going to be a few guys laying up this week to that green,” he said, “either that or hitting it way right into that bunker. I think that bunker is going to get a bit of a workout this week”.
Day currently needs to finish among the top-20 players on the leaderboard in order to get a spot next week. Otherwise, he will be planning a three-month holiday with his wife and son.
