Jason Day and Martin Kaymer: will they perform in 2013?
As the 2012 season ended, many golfers came into the limelight while some shining stars faded away.
Two such golfers, who were expected to make headlines in 2012, had a disappointing season. Martin Kaymer, a German professional golfer, is one of the highly talented golfers on the Tour.
He turned professional in 2005, and was 20 at the time.
Kaymer currently plays on the European Tour and the Professional Golf Association Tour. Since turning professional, the German golfer has won nineteen professional tour titles.
A major chunk of his success has come on the European Tour, where he has won ten titles. Kaymer’s record at the major championships is highly convincing.
Other than winning the PGA Championship back in 2010, the German has given respectable results at the other majors.
The 2010 season proved to be very successful for the German, as he tied for the seventh place in the Open Championship, and the eighth place in the U.S. Open.
He also received the European Tour Race to Dubai award and the European Tour Golfer of the Year award.
On the other hand, Australian golfer Jason Day made the headlines during the 2011 season with his excellent run of form and results that changed the course of his golfing career.
After turning professional in 2006, the Australian has had his days of glory but nothing compared to the 2011 season.
Day currently plays on the Professional Golf Association Tour and the PGA Tour of Australasia.
In his six-year career, the Australian golfer has won only three professional titles. Although his count of titles is not so large, he has been producing excellent results in almost every tournament that he has participated in.
In major championships, Day displayed a stunning performance during his 2011 season. He was tied for the second place in the Masters Tournament, second place at the U.S. Open, and 30th place at the Open Championship.
With most of his success coming in 2011, Day was supposed to become one of the top contenders in the 2012 season.
All changed for the Australian as the 2012 season started. He could not capitalise on the momentum that he carried with him coming through the 2011 season.
The two high-profile players on the Tour have not lived up to their potential.
With the 2013 season just around the corner, the duo is expected to perform well once again. Their capability cannot be questioned but the results have proved otherwise.
Top golfers on the Tour are gearing up for another showdown as the season kicks off in January.
Kaymer and Day will be two players to look forward to in the coming season because they can change the course of a tournament with their exquisite play.
