Jason Day considers Tiger Woods selection for the President’s Cup team justified
Young Jason Day is not simply just a man who knows how to tackle a golf course anywhere in the world, apparently it turns out that the Aussie is pretty much a politician too. Part of the 12-member squad on the  International team at this year’s President
Cup, Day considers selection of Tiger Woods on the American team as inevitable considering his trail blazing career over the past almost two decades. He also reconciled with the PGA Champion Keegan Bradley who was left out of the team, demonstrating his diplomatic
abilities to be friends with everyone all at the same time.
“It’s very hard not to pick Tiger Woods because of what he’s done in the past, obviously winning 73 (sic) PGA Tour events, 14 majors. It’s kind of hard to go, ‘Okay, Tiger, you’re not on the team,’” Day said. “[Keegan]‘s won a tournament and a major and
it’s his rookie year. If they picked him, it would be a great addition to the team.” he added.
Woods selection for the team on Captain Fred Couples’ personal choice, lured in scathing criticism from all walks of life and critics questioned the validity of the decision in view of the fact that the former world number one has not won a single title
in the last two years. Couples, who have been an old friend of Woods, made his pick almost three months before the event, which further infuriated the golf critics who termed it as the worst example of nepotism. Couples defended the decision at all stages,
throwing his weight behind the once legendary Woods, in a hope that he will bounce back at the Royal Melbourne next month.
Day also pointed towards the fact that golf achieved its present status-quo only because of the heroics of Woods in his career. 23-year-old Day has been a hardcore fan of Woods since his early childhood. Born to Australian father and a Filipino mother, he
started playing golf at the age of six when his father introduced him to the sport. He remained attached with several educational institutions during his teenage, most of them having an on-campus golf course facility which enabled Day to keep in touch with
his passion. He borrowed a book on Tiger Woods and was truly inspired by his blistering career and used to follow him during his practice rounds.
Woods selection for one of the coveted title events of the year has churned up heated debates during the past few months. The player has fared badly in the current season, missing two of the four major events on the calendar and missing the cut in the last
major event the PGA Championship in Atlanta. Only time can tell whether the selection was justified and how Woods will contribute to card a possible victory for the American team.
