Jason Day is injured, withdraws from the Masters at Augusta
Jason Day faced an injury during the second round game play of the Masters, and has now withdrawn from the mega event.
The 24-year-old Australian professional golf player was in the field of the Masters, staged at the sensational venue of the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia.
He was playing his natural game and successfully finished the first round by scoring 4-over 76. Then, he teed off on Friday and displayed a mediocre performance.
He bogeyed on multiple holes and sustained an injury on the 7th hole. Later, the medical team shared that Day is suffering from an ankle injury and cannot go further.
The officials of the Masters forced him to withdraw from the event. Day was left with no other option, as he could not play any further.
"I'm obviously disappointed to be forced to withdraw from the Masters," Day said. "My ankle has been bothering me since last week but I wanted to give it a try".
He added, "Unfortunately the pain made it difficult to walk and near impossible to compete. The Masters is my favourite event and I look forward to returning in the future".
Since Thursday, he has faced many hurdles while scoring at the Augusta. He is suffering badly and is now headed for a lay off time period. His medical team asked him to be on rest and not to play golf until the injury recovers.
“His left ankle pain was just too much. He had difficulty planting his foot and even walking. Jason is quite disappointed, as he had been looking forward to returning to the Masters and doing well again,” Bud Collins, Jason Day’s American agent, said.
Collins further said that his medical team will decide his future expectations and it is highly possible that two weeks rest will be enough for the Australian professional.
Day played his debut Masters in 2011 and finished tied for the second position. He impressed all the worldwide fans with enormous scoring and tremendous debut performance.
Withdrawing from the mega event made him sad. Now he will play next years’ Masters and has high plans for the year ahead as well.
