Jason Day launches his title defense at HP Byron Nelson on PGA Tour
Finishing tied for the second spot in last month’s Masters, and with a strong finish at WGC Accenture Match Play Championship at Tucson, the defending champion of this week’s HP Byron Nelson Championship, Jason Day is in just the right form to retain the
title.
The celebrated young gun from Australia has been doing wonders for his homeland and filling in for much of the dearth the country has seen in terms of professional title-fetching players. Day won the championship last year when he overpowered Blake Adams,
Brian g*y and Jeff Overton and bagged his breakthrough title win on the tour.
Day will be coming in with a priceless experience of maneuvering the course last year and would be rightly pitched to win yet again on the TPC Four Seasons Resort at Dallas Fort worth Texas.
"I've got it in my head now," Day said. "My confidence coming into this event is great. It's obviously high," Day said. "I don't want to sound too cocky, but I feel good about my game, where I am right now, mentally. Last year there was a little bit of a
struggle trying to finish this tournament off, but I feel great right now."
Day won several amateur events in Australia as well as plethora of Queensland Amateur events before turning professional in 2006 and has never played in his homeland since then. This year, however, Day will be proceeding to the Presidents Cup at the Royal
Melbourne by the end of the year and will be part of the international team in the event.
The 23-year-old Day lives in Fort Worth Texas and has practiced many a times on the TPC Four Seasons but he will be tested against a seasoned field of professional players from across the world.
K.J Choi, this year’s Players champion is part of the field along with Dustin Johnson, Nick Watney, and Rory Sabbatini to name a few. Choi is currently engaged in a whirlwind tour of the world and has participated in SK Telecom in Korea sponsored by Korean
Telecommunications and went ahead to inaugurate the new K.J Choi invitational co-sanctioned and sponsored by Asian Tour. Choi, Asia’s star player and the only major winner from the continent, will be coming back to the US to challenge Day for the title.
"I'm always thinking about it, if I can move up the world ranking, I will have a shot at playing in the Presidents Cup right now," Day said. "All I can say is if I can play good now, it will take care of itself later. It would be a great honor to play for
the International side down in Australia."
Day has moved to the 23rd place in the World Rankings and is gradually improving his rank with every event he plays. He finished top ten five times in his 11 appearances this season and has surged up to 25th in FedEx Cup Points.
