Jason Day remains in contention at the HP Byron Nelson Championship – Golf News
Jason Day carded a three-under par 67 in the third round of the HP Byron Nelson Championship at the TPC Four Seasons Resort in Irving, Texas to tie for the second position on Saturday, May 19, 2012.
Day got off to a confident start, as he carded a birdie on the first hole. Thereafter, he recorded three more birdies and reached the top of the leaderboard with a four-under par score through 17 holes.
However, he faltered on the final hole and suffered a bogey that put him back on the second position, shared with Dicky Pride.
Despite finishing off the round on a low note, he was pleased with his overall performance.
“I played great,” said the one-time PGA tour winner. “Obviously it was tough conditions out there today with the wind, but I felt like I was trying to stay as patient as possible and got away with a few shots out there, but overall very, very happy with
how the day went”.
Day took the fifth spot in the tournament last year and he is yet again in contention for the top position this year with one stroke behind Jason Dufner while entering the final round.
“Obviously I love the course,” he said. “I really like how the course sets up. I feel like my game suits this course, and with the tough conditions normally, it's pretty windy, as everyone knows around here, and I feel like I'm a pretty good wind player”.
The golf commentators believe that he is in a very good position to record the second victory of his PGA Tour career.
He is playing well and has remained consistent throughout the first three rounds. Therefore, another good round can definitely put him on top of the leaderboard after two years.
Jason Dufner, who is currently leading the event with an eight-under par three-round score, carded a one-under par 69.
Ryan Palmer, the opening round leader, faltered and recorded a two-over par 72 to slip to the 10th position. He is now four strokes behind Dufner and needs to work really hard on Sunday to challenge him on the top.
