Jason Day vows to come back in style at the HP Byron Nelson Championship on PGA Tour
The formidable Australian Jason Day will be back on the PGA Tour to make an attempt for the HP Byron Nelson Championship this week and says he is all set to pitch a fiery comeback after a long injury.
Day, who appeared at the Augusta National last month, hoping to bag the first major title of his career, had to withdraw after a severe injury which forced him to stay away from the sport for a considerable period of time.
Day said, "It fuels the hunger. I was so bored at home, I wanted to just get back out there and play”.
Day soared to limelight with his meteoric rise on the PGA Tour two years ago when he landed the coveted HP Byron Nelson title.
With his tons of experience of the course, Day believes he can win the title to regain his lost glory on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) where he once surged to a high of number nine in June 2011.
He added, “I haven't played that much this year, and I'd like to be in a better spot on the money list and world rankings. But you can't play through injuries and expect to compete against the best, so I am glad I took the break. There is a good chunk of
tournaments coming up, and I just have to be patient in my golf”.
Day posted runner up finish at the Masters last year, coming close of becoming first Australian to win the coveted green jacket in the history of the sport.
He finished for another strong runner up finish at the US Open at Congressional Country Club, finishing behind the rampaging Rory McIlroy by eight strokes.
Day closed the year poised at number nine on the PGA Tour Money List and started off the current season hoping to capitalise on his experience from the previous season.
His disappointing injury earlier in the year has kept him off-course for almost all of the events on the PGA and Day is now contemplating a fiery season before heading into the major events on both sides of the Atlantic.
The 24-year-old Aussie turned professional in the year 2006 and has two professional victories to his credit.
