Jason Dufner and Keegan Bradley now leading the PGA Championship through the halfway mark
Top ranking Steve Stricker has now been replaced from the top by another two American players, Jason Dufner and Keegan Bradley, with their exceptional performance on the second day. The summit of the last major event of the year, is now occupied by two comparatively
unknown players on the tour, while many of the big guns went silent after the halfway cut was imposed in the evening, placed at five-over.
Dufner, who made it to the top of any round in a major event, posted a second round score of five-under, 65 against his opening score of even-par, 70 to grab the joint lead of the event. Highlights of his round came at the par-five, 5th where
he pulled in an amazing 25-foot eagle to rattle the leaderboard early in the morning. He went over to card five more birdies and dropped two shots to finish for a five-under, 135 on the aggregate.
Bradley, winner of the HP Byron Nelson on the PGA Tour held earlier in May, is a rookie on the tour and has played amazingly well throughout the season. Grandson of the famous LPGA golfer Pat Bradley, the young golfer played excellent golf on the second
day, carding a round of six-under, 64 to push for his first major title of his career.
"These guys are all great players," Bradley said. "It's not like they just kind of stumbled up there. They've been out here a long time. Probably tomorrow ... it will be a little more relaxing than if I was playing with Tiger or Phil, but they're great players,
and I'm sure they're good guys."
As for Phil Mickelson, the celebrated American player has still to move up the leaderboard to push himself in contention for the title. Runner-up at the Open Championship last month, he brought shear disappointment to his fan club with his sloppy performance
at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational a week ago.
Mickelson suffered a double-bogey on the final hole, which sublimed his earlier gains in the morning. He is now one-over on the aggregate after his opening rounds of 71 and 70.
