Jason Dufner commits to play the CIMB Classic
The two-time PGA Tour winner Jason Dufner has committed to play the CIMB Classic, a co-sanctioned event by the Asian Tour and the PGA Tour.
The $6.1 million tournament will be held at The MINES Resort & Golf Club, from October 25 to 28, 2012.
According to the event officials, the tournament will again feature a total of 48 players, including 30 professionals from the PGA Tour and 10 coming from the Asian Tour. The rest of the eight players will be added to the field through sponsor exemptions.
Dufner, who recorded victories in the 2012 Zurich Classic of New Orleans and the 2012 HP Byron Nelson, is among the hottest additions to the tournament this year.
The 35-year-old also participated in last year’s edition of the tournament and finished tied for the 10th position.
While talking to the reporters on Monday, he stated that he really enjoyed his experience of playing a PGA Tour sanctioned event in Malaysia last year.
Therefore, it will be a good experience for the American to return to the field and add another good finish to his resume.
"I am very excited to be returning to the CIMB Classic," said Dufner. "I performed well at the event last year and had a great experience visiting the country and the city of Kuala Lumpur for the first time”.
He added, “As a player who enjoys playing around the globe, I look forward to the opportunity to play in front of such enthusiastic golf fans. The PGA TOUR is continuing to lift its profile in the Asia-Pacific region, and I hope I'll have the chance to come
back for years to come”.
Last week, he competed in the final leg of the PGA Tour Playoffs, the Tour Championship, and tied for the 20th position.
It was not a good finish, considering the fact that the tournament featured only 30 players from the PGA Tour.
However, his overall form on the tour makes him a strong contender in the rest of the PGA Tour events this year.
Some of the big names, who have already confirmed their participation in the CIMB Classic, include Tiger Woods, Ben Crane, Nick Watney and Bo Van Pelt.
