Jason Dufner continues his great form at the Crowne Plaza Invitational
The two-time PGA Tour winner Jason Dufner recorded a five-under par 65 in the opening round of the Crowne Plaza Invitational at the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas to tie for the second place on Thursday, May 25, 2012.
Dufner made a brilliant start to his campaign, as he recorded three consecutive birdies on the first three holes he played.
Through eight holes, he was five under for the round and one stroke behind the clubhouse leader Zach Johnson.
However, bogeys on the ninth and 11th holes took him back on the leaderboard. Yet, he did not lose his focus and continued to try to make birdie putts.
As a result, he earned two more birdies and shared the second spot with Harris English, Tom Gillis and Kyle Reifers.
“Yes, the game has been really good, a fantastic way to start,” said dufner who won the last week’s HP Byron Nelson Championship. “You have some questions after a win last week, how are you going to respond to that? I came out really quick today and got
some birdies, had a nice round, 5 under”.
According to Dufner, the winds played an important role in creating hurdles throughout the round especially later in the evening.
The golf commentators believe that he miscalculated some of his shots, which caused him to sign two bogeys in the end.
In addition to that, there were many moments when he could have chipped the ball onto the greens but he failed, as the wind forced the ball to stay a couple of yards away.
“It was a nice round today,” he said. “The upper wind this afternoon made it a little tougher on the game and get the right hook, so a good start 5 under. I will comeback tomorrow in the morning. Hopefully the wind will lay down, and I will have another
good round on the board”.
Dufner is among the hot favourites at this year’s edition because of his great form on the PGA Tour. Recently, he recorded two wins in a three-week stretch and jumped to the top of the FedEx Cup standings too.
