Jason Dufner finishes second at the ISPS HANDA Perth International
Jason Dufner of the United States carded a three-under par 69 in the final round of the ISPS HANDA Perth International, to take the second position on Sunday, October 21, 2012.
It was Dufner’s first appearance after representing the United States team in the Ryder Cup at the Medinah Country Club.
Talking to the European Tour’s official website, he expressed his pleasure over an outstanding performance that he exhibited in the tournament.
“It's been a good trip,” he said. “It's good to get back out and compete and nice to be in the hunt after a couple weeks off and after The Ryder Cup. Nothing to be ashamed of, just got to tighten up a couple things”.
Dufner got off to a confident start by carding par putts on each of the first two holes and a birdie on the third.
He then added another two shots on the seventh and the ninth hole with a bogey sandwiched in-between them. After draining a birdie on the 14th hole, he was just one stroke behind the leader Bo Van Pelt.
However, he failed to keep the momentum going and conceded another bogey on the 16th hole, to finish the tournament with a 14-under par overall score.
Alejandro Cañizares finished with an 11-under par tournament score to take the third spot on the leaderboard.
The top-five finish also moved him into the top-60 in the Race to Dubai. As a result, he now has a great chance of participating in the DP World Tour Championship, scheduled next month.
“The top five here gets me into Singapore which helps a lot,” said Cañizares. “I didn't have that tournament before because of my ranking from last year, so I’m happy to be able to get there on my own merit”.
He continued, “It helps me, gives me one more chance to consolidate in the top 60 and hopefully play in Dubai”.
Pelt, in the meantime, maintained his lead till the end of the final round to register the first ever European Tour victory of his career, at the Lake Karrinyup Country Club.
He carded a four-under par 68 on Sunday for a 16-under par tournament score, two strokes better than Dufner.
