Jason Dufner looks forward to winning the US Open after two PGA Tour victories
Jason Dufner, one of the hottest sensations on the PGA Tour these days, after earning two victories in a four-week stretch, is now listed among the favourites to win the US Open, at the Olympic Club, slated to start from June 14, 2012.
Dufner remained winless on the PGA Tour until his 164th start, when he defeated Ernie Els in the playoffs of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, in April, 2012.
The victory proved to be lucky for him, as he recorded another victory in the HP Byron Nelson Championship, with a one-stroke margin over Dicky Pride.
He then entered the field of the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial with a boosted morale, but missed the chance of the third victory of his career after he faltered in the final moments of the last round.
He stood second, while Zach Johnson recorded his second victory in the tournament’s history.
Thereafter, he decided to take a week off in order to have a thorough look at the Olympic Club, the venue for this year’s US Open.
After the practice round on Sunday, he looked confident and said that the requirements of the course suit his playing style.
Therefore, he needs to stick to his natural game and focus on ball striking, which can earn him the first major championship title of his career.
"I feel comfortable with the golf course, and I feel comfortable with how I've been playing," he said. "It's a pretty demanding golf course as far ball striking goes, which is going to fit my style. If I have a good week of ball striking, I'll be able to
contend for the title".
He is currently leading the PGA Tour money list with the $3.8 million prize money and wants to bag the major title, as he is enjoying a great form.
"It would be awesome," he said. "It's my favorite major. It's the one that, as a kid, I followed most closely. Never missed one. I even went to a couple as a spectator. To win your national open would be something of a fairy tale".
For the opening two rounds, he is grouped with Jason Day and Louis Oosthuizen.
