Jason Dufner makes confident start at the HP Byron Nelson Championship – Golf News
Jason Dufner, the recent winner on the PGA Tour, carded a three-under par 67 in the opening round of the HP Byron Nelson Championship to share the 11th spot on the leaderboard on Thursday, May 17, 2012.
Dufner got off to a quick start and carded a birdie on the very second hole (11th) he played at the TPC Four Seasons Resort in Irving, Texas.
A bogey on the 15th hole took him back to an equal-par score. Thereafter, he pared nine holes and ended with three back-to-back birdies on the final three holes.
According to Dufner, he made maximum use of the calm conditions early in the morning.
Apart from that, he also told that the first win on the PGA Tour has made him eager to register some more wins in the current season.
"It was good to get that monkey off my back, but my goals are still the same," said Dufner, who won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans this year.
"I'm approaching the game the same. I think that's a good thing. I've been real confident with my game all year and I thought a win was around the corner if I stuck with it. I'm focused on trying to get some more titles".
According to the golf commentators, Dufner has improved quite much in the past few months and he now looks confident in each of the tournament he plays.
They believe that a little extra work on his game will certainly help him record some good finishes on the PGA Tour. He currently ranks 21st in the Official World Golf Rankings.
While talking to media after the first round, he also revealed that he had been a big college football fan.
As the college football playoff season is about to begin, he showed the interest in watching it while continuing his campaign on the PGA Tour.
"We could get the four or eight best teams mixing it up with an elimination lose and you go home. There would be excitement and no doubt as to who is the national champion," he said.
