Jason Dufner ranks high in the FedEx Cup standings to qualify for Ryder Cup
Jason Dufner has been making the headlines for the last few weeks due to his outstanding performances on the PGA Tour that includes two wins in the last four weeks.
He has played a total of 13 events on the PGA Tour so far in 2012 and has recorded eight top-25 and four top-10 finishes.
As a result, he has jumped to the third place in the FedEx Cup standings with an aim to qualify for the United States Ryder Cup team for 2012.
According to the qualification criteria, the top eight players in the FedEx Cup standing will automatically qualify for the Ryder Cup, right after the PGA Championship concludes in August, 2012.
Therefore, Dufner wants to stay on the right track in order to make it to the first eight players to represent the United States team this year, with Davis Love III as captain.
He is currently in Fort Worth in order to participate in the Crowne Plaza Invitational, scheduled from May 24 to 27, 2012.
After the practice round on Wednesday, he talked to the PGA Tour media office and told that the Ryder Cup is not his current goal as the tournament is still far away.
Therefore, he wants to focus on his game rather than rankings because if he succeeds in continuing his good form, he then does not need to worry about his position in the rankings, and the chances of his qualification in the Ryder Cup.
“Being a Ryder Cup year and last year with the second place at the PGA got me off to a pretty good start for that,” he said. “So that was a bit of a goal to make the Ryder Cup team. So that's becoming closer to a reality. That's in the back of my mind a
little bit. But I've got a lot of golf tournaments left until the Ryder Cup there at the end of September.”
“The Ryder Cup, it would be great,” he added. “But those things are very far down the road. I don't look too far into the future as far as my golf goes. I'm pretty focused on what's going on here in Fort Worth”.
He is now eying the third victory of his career on the PGA Tour at the Colonial Country Club.
