Jason Dufner remains on top at the Crowne Plaza Invitational
Jason Dufner remained on top of the leaderboard after carding a four-under par 66 in the third round of the Crowne Plaza Invitational at the Colonial Country Club on Saturday, May 26, 2012.
Dufner recorded a total of six birdies against two bogeys to take a one-stroke lead over Zach Johnson.
The highlight of his performance includes three consecutive birdies that he made, starting from the 10th hole.
Until now, both Johnson and Dufner are contending strongly against each other right.
Dufner is currently at 15-under par and Johnson stays one stroke behind. In the meantime, the closest to them is Tom Gillis who currently has score of seven-under par after three rounds.
Therefore, golf fans are expecting a match-play competition between Dufner and Johnson in the final round on Sunday.
"It seems like one of us is either going to win or finish second," said Dufner, who has recorded two wins in the last three events on the PGA Tour.
On the 16th hole, Dufner struggled a little and recorded a bogey to match Johnson’s score on the leaderboard.
However, he bounced back strongly with a birdie on the very next hole followed by a good recovery from wayward tee shot on the final hole to save par and regained the lead.
"I really wasn't aware of (the separation) until I looked at the board on 13. It was more than I anticipated," Johnson said. "It seemed like I didn't hear too many roars in front of us, so that's a telling sign. ... I still have 18 holes and that's my focus.
I totally anticipate Dufner to keep doing what he's doing. There's not a whole lot going on that's wrong".
Overall, Dufner is currently considered as the favourite for a win in event because of his recent form on the tour.
On the other hand, Johnson’s last victory on the tour came two years ago. Yet, the golf commentators believe that he has improved quite well in the past few months and his experience and good track record can definitely help him outshine Dufner on Sunday.
