Jason Dufner takes halfway lead at the Crowne Plaza Invitational
Jason Dufner fired a bogey-free six-under par 64 in the second round of the Crowne Plaza Invitational at the Colonial Country Club to take the halfway lead on Friday, May 25, 2012.
Dufner started his round on the back nine of the course and recorded two birdies through nine holes he played.
The real entertainment started when he managed to score a birdie on par-five first hole on the front nine.
Thereafter, he signed three more birdies off the next four holes that took him to the top of the leaderboard.
Last week, he won the HP Byron Nelson Championship and is now eying another victory on the PGA Tour this week.
If he manages to come out victorious at the Colonial Country Club, he will become the only player to win both the events in Dallas and Fort Worth in one season, since Ben Hogan did it in 1946.
"That would be great company to join, obviously," Dufner said. "To have anything compared to him or be talked in the same sentence with him is something that would be pretty unique and special to me".
Dufner is now among the hot favourites in the field of 123 players because of his recent form on the tour.
When he entered the field of Zurich Classic of New Orleans this year, he had yet to win an event on the PGA Tour. Three weeks later, he had two wins registered to his name.
In addition to that, he succeeded in taking or sharing the lead 11 times in the last 34 rounds he played.
"I'm just trying to be confident and think about the things I've been doing for almost a year now, and realize that those are the things that are making me successful out here, and not get too caught up in everything else that's going on around me," Dufner
said.
In the meantime, David Toms, the defending championship missed the cut after carding a one-over par 71, which was not enough to make it to the cut line at three-over two-round score.
He signed a four-over par 74 in the opening round on Thursday.
