Jason Dufner takes halfway lead at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans - Golf News
Jason Dufner took the halfway lead at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans after posting a seven-under par 65 in the second round, on Friday, April 27, 2012.
Dufner kicked off the round with a birdie on the very first hole and ended with a spectacular 30-foot eagle putt on the final hole of the round.
Overall, he managed to score five birdies and an eagle to finish off one stroke ahead of Russell Knox, Ken Duke and John Rollins with a 12-under par two-round score.
In the last four tournaments he played, he took the midway lead in two of them, including the Masters. However, the final two rounds of 75 each forced him to drop on the leaderboard position.
According to the PGA Tour stats, he is currently ranked second in the pre-cut scoring. However, his post-cut scoring was worse, as he was ranked 98th and 108th in the third and fourth round, respectively.
"It's been a difficult weekend for me the last month and a half or so," Dufner said. "I haven't quite played as well as I would have liked, but I know that my game is still pretty good".
"I've been trying to think about what I can do better mentally, what I can do better emotionally out there and learn from some things that I maybe struggled with. Obviously, there's a lot of different things that go into winning besides hitting the golf
ball," he added.
Greg Chalmers, Ernie Els and Steve Stricker tied for the fifth position after carding a 10-under par two-round score each.
Chalmers displayed an amazing show of birdies and an eagle to score an eight-under par score in the second round.
He started with style, as he carded an eagle on the first hole and continued on making good shots throughout the round. He scored a total of nine birdies and an eagle against three bogeys.
The defending champion Bubba Watson added another 71 to his tournament score to make the cut. The cut-line was made at two-under for the two rounds.
This is Watson’s first appearance following his win in the Masters Tournament, early in the month.
