Jason Dufner takes midway lead at the Transitions Championship – Golf News
The American Jason Dufner added another 66 to his first round 66 on the second day of the Transitions Championship to surpass Padraig Harrington on the leaderboard.
He was able to take the midway lead at the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club in Palm Harbor, Florida.
The overnight leader, Harrington, was completely unimpressive on Friday, when he mixed his maiden birdie of the day with three bogeys to finish two-over par 73.
In the meantime, Dufner remained focused in his game and repeated his yesterday’s performance to record five birdies in a bogey-free round.
His total score at the end of the second round was 10-under par 132. "Pretty stress-free round," said Dufner, who has yet to win a US PGA Tour title in 159 starts.
On the other hand, Harrington still believes that he displayed a satisfying performance on the course. He said:
"I am happy with my game, but when you shoot a good score, it is hard to match the next day. When you are leading the tournament, it is hard not to be a little bit cautious, and I think at times I was on the greens".
He added a comment regarding his bogeys, "I didn't do too much damage today. It wouldn't have been the end of the world if I didn't have those two three-putts. It could be OK".
Later, Harrington was joined by William McGirt as he scored three-under par 68, which was enough to share the second position on the leaderboard.
McGrit managed a total of six birdies in his second round. However, the three bogeys spoiled his overall score.
After the round, he said that he could have avoided the bogeys to take the top position in the midway tournament.
Yet, he believes that it was all part of the game and they were supposed to come because of the mistakes he made on the putts.
Justin Rose, the winner of last week’s Cadillac Championship, shared the 13th position with 11 other players after carding one-under par 70.
Following his impressive win at Doral, much is expected from him at the Transitions Championship.
