Jason Dunford and Shijia Wang perform well in Dubai: 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup
Kenya’s Jason Dunford and China’s Shijia Wang put up inspiring performances at the 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from October 7-8. The session of the meet conducted the Men’s 100m and Women’s 200m freestyle heats series.
Jason Dunford thrashed Hong Kong’s David Kai Wong and United Arab Emirates’ Tiago Ferrao by posting an inspiring mark of 49.34 seconds to win the Men’s 100m freestyle title. Meanwhile, both Kai Wong and Ferrao secured second and third positions with a time
of 49.96 seconds and 50.82 seconds, respectively. The fourth, fifth and sixth positions went to United Arab Emirates’ Velimir Stjepanovic, Hungary’s Krisztian Takacs and Sweden’s Gustav Aaberg with a mark of 50.90 seconds, 51.04 seconds and 51.48 seconds,
respectively.
Kolin Riazanov of United Arab Emirates wound up seventh in a time of 51.92 seconds, while Stefan Sorak settled for eighth in 52.89 seconds. Additionally, Adam Ingledew of United Arab Emirates and Kenya’s Edward Ilako got ninth and tenth positions with a
mark of 53.59 seconds and 54.45 seconds, respectively.
The Women’s 200m freestyle heat was taken over by China’s young athlete, Shijia Wang with a time of 2 minutes and 01.21 seconds. Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s Sze Hang and Sweden’s Petra Granlund earned second and third positions with a time of 2:01.67 minutes
and 2:02.39 minutes, respectively. In addition, China’s Yue Li and Sweden’s Celine Bertrand wound up fourth and fifth in a time of 2:03.85 and 2:05.45 minutes.
Wen Teo Jing of Singapore finished sixth in a time of 2 minutes and 09.71 seconds, while Gabriella Austin of United Arab Emirates settled seventh in 2 minutes and 12.35 seconds. Moreover, Jolene Tan earned eighth spot with a mark of 2:15.28 minutes. Finally,
Rhea Castelino of United Arab Emirates settled ninth in 2:20.44 minutes.
The 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup is a vital series for all swimmers, as it is providing a thrilling opportunity to both senior and junior level athletes to prepare themselves hard for their forthcoming meets at the London Olympic Games, in 2012. The seven
stop FINA World Cup Series is set to take place in some other regions of the world that include Stockholm, Moscow, Berlin, Singapore, Beijing and Tokyo.
