Jason Dunford claims Men's 100m butterfly title: Day two – 2011 Pro Dual Meet 1
Jason E Dunford won hearts of arena by claiming gold medal of Men's 100m butterfly on final day of the 2011 Pro Dual Meet 1, on Thursday, November 17. The meet is a two day tournament and is scheduled at the University of Michigan Pool.
East's Dunford overwhelmed the efforts of his competitors by occupying the title of dual-lap butterfly event. He faced severe competition from his team-member, Peng Wu and Christopher D Brady of West.
The 24-year-old Dunford looked considerably strong for the title of butterfly event from beginning of the race. With his outstanding efforts throughout the butterfly discipline, he reached the podium for gold medal.
Dunford had a comparatively quicker start and he was the first swimmer to leap into the water. With his tremendous start, he completed his first lap in a time of 24.73 seconds.
His unimaginably strong start coupled with his gruelling strategy provided him a prominent lead from his competitors in the first lap. He was chased by 23-year-old Brady, who remained 0.27 seconds slower than him in the first lap and ended his lap with a second best timing of 25.00 seconds.
The third fastest spot was obtained by 24-year-old Wu, who remained 0.17 seconds behind his former finisher, completing his first half in a time of 25.17 seconds.
Meanwhile, Dunford geared up his swim in the final lap and concluded his race in a finest time of 28.04 seconds to submit 52.77 seconds for gold medal. He was traced by Brady, who remained 0.83 seconds slower than the gold medallist and clocked a time of 53.60 seconds for silver medal.
The third spot of the race was secured by Wu, who was 0.41 seconds slower than his former finisher and produced a time of 54.01 seconds for bronze medal.
In the meantime, Wu’s team-member Fred V Castro, who was only 1.12 seconds slower than him, submitted a time of 55.13 seconds for fourth position.
Dunford was overjoyed with his title claiming effort and articulated his desire of continuing the same at higher levels. Furthermore, the session concluded after the completion of all scheduled events while the podium finishers received awards for their astonishing efforts after the session.
