Jason Dunford claims Men’s 50m butterfly title: Day three – 2011 All African Games
Day three of the 2011 All African Games saw an impressive performance in Zimpeto National Stadium, in Maputo, Mozambique, on Wednesday, September 7. The session of the meet conducted the Men’s 50m butterfly final.
In the corresponding race, Jason Dunford of Kenya took home the gold medal on the podium with a winning time of 23.57 seconds. More importantly, Dunford thrashed down his previous best meet record of 23.91 seconds, set back in 2007. After the race, Dunford
took a huge sigh of relief.
Meanwhile, Neil Watson took home silver medal on the podium by posting a matchless time of 24.31 seconds and Garth Tune earned bronze medal in the platform by submitting a stunning time of 24.70 seconds. Yellow Yeiyah of Nigeria earned fourth place honours
in a time of 25.01 seconds, while Rama Vyombo rounded out the top five seeds in a time of 25.44 seconds.
In the corresponding swim, Jughurtha Bourmalie earned sixth place honours in a time of 25.46 seconds and Oluseyi Fatayi Williams was placed seventh in a time of 25.71 seconds. Last, but not the least, Joao Matias settled eighth in a time of 25.80 seconds.
After the swim, Matias was not really contented and pleased with his individual splash.
Earlier in the day, South Africa’s squad of Karin Prinsloo, Natasha De Vos, Roxanne Tammadge and Suzaan van Biljon took home the Women’s 400m freestyle relay crown with a captivating mark of 3 minutes and 53.93 seconds. Zimbabwe’s group consisting of Kirsty
Coventry, Samantha Welch, Kirsten Lapham and Nicole Horn grabbed silver medal on the podium by submitting a striking time of 3 minutes and 57.81 seconds.
Algeria’s quartet of Fella Benaceur, Melia Mghezzi Bekhouche, Sarah Hadj Abderahmane and Amel Melih settled for bronze title after the squad touched the finishing wall and ended their swim in a collective time of 4 minutes and 02.84 seconds.
The arena applauded for the scintillating swims of all swimmers, while the winners were awarded medals and accolades after the end of the day’s session.
