Jason Dunford pockets Men's 50m butterfly gold medal: Day one – 2011 Pro Dual Meet 1
Jason E Dunford pocketed the title of Men's 50m butterfly on day one of the 2011 Pro Dual Meet 1, on Wednesday, November 16. The meet is a two day event and is scheduled at the University of Michigan Pool.
The 24-year-old Dunford of East team devastated hopes of his competitors in the Men's 50m event. He has already proved his dominance in various international swimming events including All-Africa Games, Summer Universiade and Common Wealth Games.
His recent accomplishments include two gold medals of 50m butterfly and 100m butterfly at the 2011 All-Africa Games in Maputo. In these Games, he also captured three silver medals and one bronze medal in the events of 200m butterfly, 100m freestyle, 50m back-stroke and 50m freestyle, respectively.
He claimed the title of butterfly event by clocking a time of 23.96 seconds. The gold medallist was trailed by Christopher D Brady of West, who remained 0.52 seconds slower from him and ended second with a timing of 24.48 seconds.
The 23-year-old Brady edged out his competitor and Dunford's team-member, Bobby T Savulich, who was just 0.20 seconds behind him and reached the podium for bronze medal with a timing of 24.68 seconds.
The fourth spot of the race was obtained by Bryan J Lundquist of West, who remained 0.09 seconds slower from his former finisher on the finishing wall, clocking a time of 24.77 seconds.
Similarly, the 26-year-old Lundquist was just 0.04 seconds ahead of his subsequent rival, Barry J Murphy of East, who concluded his swim with a fifth fastest time of 24.81 seconds for fourth position.
In the mean time, Joe Bartoch of West, who was 0.23 seconds slower than his preceding swimmer, hit the wall with a timing of 25.04 seconds for sixth position. He was trailed by his team-mate, Davis E Tarwater, who concluded his swim in the seventh fastest time of 25.12 seconds.
The crowd appreciated incredible efforts of all participants, who tried to secure a podium finish. In addition, the winners were awarded with accolades for their fascinating swim in the butterfly discipline after the completion of session.
